I Am A Muslim Girl

I Am A Muslim Girl

I’m A Muslim Girl
A pure pearl
A beacon light

Be it day or night
I always move about
With light all around me

I’m a Muslim girl
Be it day or night

I move about with a healing touch
In the footsteps of Muhammad Rasulullah
The last Messenger of Allah

What a pleasure
What a pride
Alhamddo-lillah!

This light-hearted evocative piece by Syeda Shireen Zahra Zaidi seeks to slash the stereotype surrounding Muslim women. The true veil is always that which is in the heart. This debate gains momentum especially as certain Muslim women struggle to safeguard their rights in jurisdictions where the veil has been banned. After all, Muslim women too, must have the fairness of freedom of expression. What you wear does not and should not define who you are.

Syeda Shireen Zahra Zaidi is currently doing her BBA from the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, and completed her intermediate education with an FSC Pre Medical from the Punjab College of Information Technology in F-8/4. Her O`Levels were sat from the Global System of Integrated Studies (GSIS) in H-8/1. Shireen is an accomplished cook and keeps dabbling in new dishes.
