Speak The Truth

by

Qumer Rashid

And you’ll be flagged and imprisoned
This life is caught in the grip of lies.
Human beings are crowing in terror,
While blood sucking monsters
Are on the rampage.

How can this cruelty be called kindness?
How can i write that this disease cures?
Every evening here is one of desolation,
Every road and alley way
Struck by calamity.

With hope in our heart
We searched for a city
Where is that city now
O, my devastated heart,
How can this desert be called a rose garden?
How can i write of this cloud’s silver lining?

O, fellow artists of my home land
Don’t sacrifice your art to darkness,
These people who live in places
All are murderers,

O, my companions
We have inherited this grief from the past.
How can I write that this grief is new?
Darkness called light .
The hot desert wind called a morning breeze.
